MUMS Public Lunchtime Concert: Quartet
‘In the days when the seventh angel is ready to blow his trumpet, the mystery of God will be completed’ (Revelation 10:7)
Composed in a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time takes inspiration from Revelation 10. At the head of the finished score he wrote “In homage to the Angel of the Apocalypse, who lifts his hand toward heaven, saying, ‘There shall be time no longer.’ Messiaen's masterpiece remains a timeless testament to the power of music to inspire audiences with its ethereal beauty and profound spirituality.
This life-altering work will be performed by four current and former students of the University of Manchester Music Department: Arthur Geoghegan, Ryotaro Takano, Rob Hughes, and Ameen Elbadri.
